Class Description
This is our “MURDER” course which will bring you the fundamentals of cold-case homicide investigations. Of course, homicide refers to all deaths by a human being and not all are murder. There is manslaughter, negligent homicide, accidental deaths, and justified killings such as in self-defense. One can only hope…
Homicide is a premium investigative assignment in the police world and few private investigators have the opportunity to pursue it. We can’t teach you everything about these kinds of investigations in the time we will have together, but this will give you a good foundation and perhaps enough tools to succeed.
Don’t underestimate your opponent in cases like these. If they really killed someone and got away with it, what will they do to you if you’re getting close? We’ll discuss all of this in class, not just how to investigate, but how to address safety issues, evidence collection, and more.
Includes three Classes:
OSINT 101
TRAINING HOURS
8 hours of training
This typically first day class (8 hours) includes over 50 OSINT techniques used by Texas PI’s in their pursuit of facts, locates, crimes and torts. After an initial introduction by all present, an overview of OSINT is provided, and then a briefing on an actual case. Following this a 3-4 hour briefing on a number of OSINT techniques and strategies. And then we work the case! Working as a team, past classes have actually solved cases, but the important part of this exercise is learning the OSINT process.
SURVEILLANCE 102
TRAINING HOURS
8 hours of training
On the second day we do a live surveillance exercise with nine rotations, which means a lot of surveillance experience fast! Do the homework before class because you’ll have an opportunity to put it to work. The day begins with a briefing (sometimes given the night before) that includes maps, targets, and more – similar to a professional surveillance op. This exercise is robust in that newbies enjoy it and learn more than they might in 25 surveillance missions (a standard number for rookies). But it’s also surprising for experienced surveillance pros. You’ll see why on SURF day!
REPORT WRITING 103
TRAINING HOURS
6 hours of training
All of the investigative work is brought together on report writing day. An extensive survey of past students shows that 99% do not like report writing! But sorry folks, we gotta do it. Investigative reports can be game-changers in cases, in attorney negotiations, in court, and in our client’s lives. Not all private investigators are writing reports routinely, but there is a discipline that is useful to have and that discipline is to constantly be seeking and collecting facts, pics, and documents. Examples of quality reports will be provided to students that show easy-to-follow formats. Note that pics are critical to a high-quality report, so bring your camera!

Client Stories and Experiences
Dave and his team made this an amazing experience. I would recommend this course to anyone looking into becoming PI. There was so much information given in these 3 days. More than I ever imagined. The support continued even after the course was completed.
